Moving towards low energy and keeping building diversity
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) producers support an ambitious drive towards low-energy buildings, but warn against excessive harmonisation and potentially negative consequences on architectural diversity. EAACA Position on EPBD
Low-Energy-Future
On 17 February 2009, the European Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Association (EAACA) organised a debate in Brussels, hosted by Mrs Silvia-Adriana Ţicău, the Member of the European Parliament managing the work on energy efficiency of buildings, to discuss sustainable building solutions for a low-energy future.

REACH - Guidance on requirements for substances in articles
The document assists producers and importers of articles in identifying whether they have obligations under REACH; in particular in relation to registration and notification according to Article 7, and in relation to article supply chain communication according to Article 33.
Guidance for Articles
If you are in doubt whether or not a material is an article you may use the indicative questions on page 24 of the guidance document. These questions support the evaluation of the importance of the chemical composition versus the shape/surface/design in relation to the function and thus facilitate the application of the article definition. EAACA experts on REACH answered these questions. These answers clearly indicate that blocks, elements and reinforced beams and also crushed AAC are “articles” according to the definition of REACH. Questions and answers
REACH and AAC
AAC blocks, elements and reinforced beams are “articles” according to the definition of REACH. This is important in this context, because, there is no registration, evaluation or authorisation of “articles” under REACH as long as there are no substances released while the products are being used as recommended. AAC does not evaporate as used, hence there is no obligation to register according to REACH.
